Marianick fell in love with the Underpass Park Farmers' Market right from her first visit. The location, the atmosphere, the people, and of course... the food, everything was perfect!
As a learning experience designer, it was very natural to take over the design and maintenance of this website.
Samantha is a recent graduate from the Environment and Urban Sustainability program at Ryerson University. Her passion for ecology and reciprocity with the earth will lead her towards a career in ecological restoration.
For her, volunteering with the Underpass Park Farmers Market is a great way to promote sustainable food practices and support the social sustainability of local businesses/farmers, all of which she cares for deeply. She enjoys her time at the market and finds it to be a fantastic place filled with lovely people.
Have loved my first big volunteer gig as a photographer of the Underpass Market. When I am not at the market, I love taking pictures for friends, teaching kids to ski and exploring the city.
I’m looking forward to grade 12 at Riverdale Collegiate, making the most of my last year of high school during these unprecedented times.
A little known secret is that my mom founded WREN Brands SNAX... a healthy treat staple for your dog at the market.
With a professional journalist father, Mathieu was practically born and raised into photography. Have you ever looked back at your first-ever photographs? Most of the time, they're clumsy - yet touching - attempts at trees, landscapes and monuments. Mathieu's child pictures, taken with a disposable camera (yes, he was born in 1983!), are all portraits. He has always been fascinated by the diversity of the people of this planet and has been trying to capture it since his youngest age.
The Underpass Park Farmers' Market, with so many fascinating characters and their beautiful product, is an ideal means of expression!
Hi, my name is Shathvahi Ramesh.
I am currently a student at the University of Toronto, and my study interest is in environmental ethics and religious studies.
I am a lover of nature and any activities related to nature. Things I enjoy most are finding new bike paths and yoga. In addition, I am a youth ambassador at an upcoming organization (Global interactions) striving to provide an inclusive space and education for youth.
Rumi Jeraj hails from Sherwood Park Alberta (the world's largest hamlet) and is a recent graduate of Ryerson University where he completed his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Performance Dance. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Rumi’s art practice has involved a return to nature and a curiosity about how natural and urban spaces collide. This has fervently led him to the joyous moments spent volunteering at the underpass market. He hopes to see you there sometime soon.
Jocelyn recently completed her MA Geography at the University of Guelph and has since moved to the Regent Park neighbourhood.
She is passionate about the Underpass market because it gives her the opportunity to connect with her new community and shop for locally-sourced fruits and flowers. Jocelyn is committed to volunteering because it gives her the opportunity to turn her passion into action, and she can contribute to the fight against urban food deserts.
Mike has enjoyed the opportunity to help develop the market into a local community hub in Corktown. He is beginning his Ph.D. this year and will focus on the politics of street food vending in Thailand. Prior to returning to graduate school, he had the privilege to volunteer and work internationally, throughout India, Barbados, Southeast Asia, and East Africa. He’s an avid traveller and other passions include cooking, records, cycling, and community development.
